A mother has been arrested after her two-year-old son was found in a yard eating a frozen piece of chicken.
Hallie Elizabeth Amick, 30, was charged with child endangerment causing physical injury and drug possession, the Des Moines Register reports.
Police were alerted to the boy’s situation when they pulled his father over for speeding. He told officers he was hurrying to get home to his son, who had been left alone.
The officer sent a patrol to the house. who found the boy in the yard with a full diaper. He was sucking on a frozen piece of chicken, as a small dog was trying to wrestle him for it.
Neighbour Deborah Snyder said the boy’s diaper was ‘almost down to his knees’.
This isn’t the first time the child had been left alone said Snyder.
‘This is the first time he got out of the house, but ever since they moved in they (left) him alone.’
The Iowa Department of Human Services was called to the home and according to the publication, they wouldn’t comment any further.
