Hit sitcom Modern Family has broken a lot of barriers through the years, and the show now has another first to its credit, by adding a young transgender child actor to the cast.
In a forthcoming episode, Cam and Mitchell allow daughter Lily to have her transgender friend Tom over, congratulating themselves on how open-minded their child is. But in true Modern Family style, things go off course quickly, leaving the boys desperate to salvage the situation.
Director Ryan Case posted an Instagram from the set, writing, ‘This is Jackson Millarker. He’s 8 years old, from Atlanta, and just happens to be transgender. He plays Lily’s friend Tom in this week’s Modern Family and he’s wonderful. One of the many reasons I love being a part of this show.’
