The man, revealed only as Miguel, said Mateen was ‘terrified’ after learning a previous partner was HIV positive.

‘I’ve cried like you have no idea,’ Miguel told Spanish-language television network Univision. ‘But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism. In my opinion he did it for revenge.’

Miguel claims Mateen had sex with two two Puerto Rican men, and later found out one of them was HIV positive.

Miguel said he met Mateen on a gay dating website and dated for about two months.

Mateen, 29, shot dead 49 people at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Florida, on June 12.
