A kidnapped US woman called her husband before being found dead in the boot of her car.
Rita Maze, 47, made the call on Tuesday night from the boot of her car saying she’d been hit on the head while stopped at Interstate 15 rest stop 40 miles north of Helena, Montana, NBC news reports.
‘There were phone conversations with her from the Helena police department just prior to her death so we’re relatively certain of the time she became deceased,’ Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said at a Wednesday press conference, noting that officials believe the woman was killed in Spokane County.
Maze’s body was found in her car on Wednesday night in a parking lot outside Spokane, Washington International Airport.
Her cause of death hasn’t been announced but Dutton said it’s believed to be a homicide.
‘It’s too early to tell,’ he said, but ‘we would suspect now’ that it was an random attack.
A GoFundMe page was set up Wednesday to assist Maze’s family.
