Dugard, who was held captive for 18 years, doesn’t want her story being mixed up with other victims like Elizabeth, who was held captive for nine months.

‘Many confuse me and my story with Elizabeth Smart,’ she writes in her second memoir, Freedom: My Book of Firsts. ‘Just for the record, I am not Elizabeth Smart. Even though we both have blond hair, we have vastly different lives and experiences.’

Adding, ‘I am the one who was captive for EIGHTEEN YEARS! Not months.’

Dugard also mentions the three women abducted by notorious Cleveland rapist Ariel Castro, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight.

‘Right away with their first appearances on TV, they all struck me as being hopeful for their futures and all that life had to offer,’ she writes.

Dugard says she felt a ‘kindship’ to Berry, as she also gave birth to a child while in captivity.
