On what would have been his third birthday, Lane Graves’ parents and friends are gathering on Saturday to celebrate the life of the son who was tragically taken by an alligator at a Disney resort.
‘We will celebrate LT’s first birthday in heaven and the two years, nine months and 11 days we spent together as a family,’ they said in a new statement released to PEOPLE. ‘We sincerely thank the thousands of Nebraskans and others from around the country who have been so supportive of our family with cards, letters and acts of kindness over the past several months.
‘We are grateful and hope for continued privacy as we work to heal our family,’ they said. ‘Lane & Ella, “We love you up to heaven and down to the grass.”’
Lane Graves was killed in an alligator attack in June, while holidaying with his family in Orlando.
The two-year-old was playing in the shallow waters of the Seven Seas Lagoon when the alligator took him. Father Matt Graves tried desperately to save him. Lane’s body was found 15 hours later.
