A three-month-old baby girl has been eaten alive after her mother left her home alone to go out partying.
The 26-year-old woman – who has been arrested for child neglect – returned to her home in Johannesburg to find the remains of her daughter.
The woman reportedly took the baby’s twin brother, named Lucky, with her on the night out.
A neighbour heard screams at dawn when the woman returned home.
The neighbour said: ‘The baby could only have died a painful death. The infant’s tongue, eyes, and fingers had all been eaten.’
Neighbours have said the mother often went out partying leaving her children home alone.
The boy is now in the care of his father.
In 2011, two baby girls were killed and eaten in separate attacks in South African townships.
