Fury after photo shows mum hitting BONG while breastfeeding

An uproar has exploded online.

A young mum who shared a photo of herself smoking a bong while nursing her baby to Facebook has sparked outrage online.

The young mum, Kayla Marlowe, shared the photo to a Facebook group called CannaParentingSupport.V.420 which is a place parents who enjoy marijuana.

The photo shows her feeding her infant with one hand, while steadying a large bong with the other, as a friend helps her bring a flame to it.

She captioned the photo: ‘Needed a safe space to share this beautiful picture.’

The mum is from the USA state of Oregon, where recreational marijuana is legal for adults over 21. But, like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes, smoking marijuana while pregnant or breastfeeding is strongly discouraged.

Some parents commented commending the woman:

‘Love it!! My boyfriend would do this for me when I breastfed and of course you have to do the lean-over so you don’t bump their head or light their little hairs on fire.’

While overwhelmingly the photo copped severe negative reactions from the greater audience.

‘Nursing while getting stoned, you are trailer park rejects. Pure trash,’ wrote one person.

‘I’m no doctor but I’m pretty sure a newborn child breathing anything besides air is probably bad,’ another added, dryly.

While some people likened it to drinking a beer while breastfeeding – where if one gets the timing right, the baby will not be exposed to any alcohol – THC from marijuana smoking is a different matter.

‘THC in marijuana gets into breast milk and may affect your baby,’ writes The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

‘Because THC is stored in body fat, it stays in your body for a long time. A baby’s brain and body are made with a lot of fat.’
