Desperate mum finds autistic daughter’s favourite shirt on facebook

The kindness from these strangers is heartwarming

A mother of an autistic girl has been left ‘overwhelmed’ by the kindness of strangers after turning to social media to find a replacement for her daughter’s favourite t-shirt.

In a desperate bid to replace the flower-patterned shirt her daughter Cami had been wearing almost every day for the past five years, Deborah Skouson sent a heartfelt message to her 500 Facebook friends.

‘Okay friends and family, I need your help! As most of you know, my daughter Cami has autism. For the past 4-5 years, she has been fixated on THIS shirt,’ posted Deborah along with a photo of the shirt in question.

‘She got her first one in kindergarten 5 years ago, and we have found 4 more since then, mostly on eBay. Her current one is almost unwearable.

‘This is where you come in. We need another ‘pink flower shirt’, so will you please share this post or even just the photo?’

What happened next brought tears to Deborah’s eyes – and no doubt a smile to Cami’s face…

After being shared on Facebook over 5000 times, Deborah found herself inundated with identical pink flower shirts, amassing 80 from around the world with promises of even more to come!

‘I was hoping for a few extra shirts we could use for backup. As of right now, we are up to 80 shirts, with more messages coming in,’ she said.

‘I have been brought to tears many times over the past week, and it’s because so many strangers have reached out to my little girl with love.’

Having fallen in love with the shirt after wearing it on her first day of kindergarten, Deborah says Cami was drawn to the bright, bold colours, saying: ‘She started wearing the shirt more and more towards the end of her kindergarten year, and just became attached to it. She’s drawn to the pattern, and she loves the colour fuchsia.’
