Chloe, 24, was seemingly out of podium contention in seventh place going into the final leg of the gruelling sport that encompasses swimming, fencing, running, shooting and showjumping.

But the Hungarian-based star blitzed through the final combined shooting/running event to leapfrog past the favourites and win Australia’s first Olympic medal in the age-old competition.

“I can’t describe it. It’s just the best feeling ever. All my hard work has finally paid off,” said Chloe, who is coached by her dad Olympian father Daniel, who represented Australia in modern pentathlon at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Chloe, who finished seventh in the same event at the 2012 London Olympics, was also cheered on by her brother, Max, who competes in the men’s modern pentathlon this weekend.
