A newborn baby and her cancer-stricken mother have both tragically lost their lives.
Carrie DeKlyen from Michigan who was diagnosed with severe brain cancer but refused to undergo chemotherapy. She sadly died the following day after giving birth to her baby daughter.
Life Lynn DeKlyen sadly passed away 14 days after being born via C-section on September 6. The bay girl was born at the 24-week mark of pregnancy and weighed just 566 grams.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Carrie originally was told by doctors that she had less than five years to live in March.
The following month, Carrie underwent surgery to remove the tumour, but sadly returned weeks later. It was then when she discovered she was eight weeks pregnant with her daughter.
She was then offered two options, either save her daughter’s life or end the pregnancy to undergo chemotherapy. Carrie opted to go through with the pregnancy and forgo treatment.
On making the tough decision, her husband Nick said: ‘We love the Lord. We’re pro-life. We believe that God gave us this baby.’
