A NSW school is under investigation amid claims that an autistic student was left unsupervised in a fenced playground he calls a cage.
Officials have spoken to the parents of 13-year-old Toby Jordan who has autism after the boy told them he was often put inside a fenced structure the school refers to as the “top playground”.
He reportedly spends time in the structure when he has “meltdowns”.
His mother Linda told the ABC’s The 7.30 Report that she had no idea her son was being detained in the cage until she visited the school unannounced and saw staff manhandling her son.
She said her son had been left traumatised.
Education Minister Adrian Piccoli says the department, Family and Community Services and NSW police are investigating.
