It’s not the first time Nicole and Alexander’s affection for each other has been obvious for the world to see.
During 2017’s Emmys, the Australian actress kissed the Hollywood heavyweight on the lips when he won the Outstanding Supporting Actor award, as a smiling Keith watched on. Later, Nicole justified locking lips with her co-star while appearing on Graham Norton’s chat show, pointing out that she had also kissed her husband at the red carpet event and explaining, “You’ve got to understand, I did everything with Alex,” referring to their explicit sex scenes together on the show.
She added, “I’ve got an amazing, supportive, gorgeous husband who I love more than anything in the world and I gave Alex a congratulatory kiss and he’s like a mannequin.”
In an interview with W magazine, Nicole added that her and Alexander’s 'Emmy' kiss was nothing in comparison to what they’d done on the set of HBO's Big Little Lies.
“So to be able to just give him a kiss, I mean, I’d kissed him many, many times on the set. Much more than that,” she explained. “So that was just my way of going, in the moment – we were both shocked and we were like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I’m so glad you won.’ Because I know what he put into that role.”
Last month, Alexander talked about playing the abusive husband for the TV adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel and gushed about his feelings for Nicole.
“Those scenes were obviously quite intense to shoot,” he told 2Day FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show. “It was extraordinary to work with Nicole. She’s not only an incredible actress but she’s also like the most lovely and generous and sweet woman.
“Nicole and I had some time together to build up that trust before shooting those scenes, which was crucial to have, because again, some of them are very violent and very physical, and very psychologically draining,” Alexander added.
Happily married Nicole has always stressed what a support her country music singing husband has been while filming the emotionally taxing drama, how alarmed Keith was by the bruising she sustained on set and was even disturbed by the finished product.
At the Season 2 premiere in New York in May, Nicole acknowledged how Keith’s ongoing support makes her work possible.
“He’s unbelievably supportive and watches all the episodes and cheers on from the sidelines – which, I have to say, if I didn’t have that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I seriously wouldn’t.”
