Food delivery apps are changing the way Aussies eat, but one Sydney resident got a very unwelcome side order of crime when a man in a Deliveroo uniform was buzzed into her building with someone’s dinner.
Security footage has caught the man robbing Gabrielle Fraser’s mailbox of a package, before making off into the night. The worrying incident has sparked warnings about unsupervised home visitors and the potential security issues they can bring with them.
‘I had never considered for a second that somebody like that would steal from residents in a building like mine,’ Gabrielle says.
‘I’ll definitely be thinking twice about using a service like this, or if I do, I’ll definitely just go outside of the property of the building to collect my takeaway, or whatever it is.’
According to reports, Deliveroo has provided police with the worker’s name and mobile number, but – disturbingly – the company apparently does not have their address, making charges unlikely.
According to reports, the man is believed to be a backpacker.
