Endah Cakrawati, took to social media to upload videos from inside the cabin just seconds before tragedy struck on Thursday, in which the 30-year-old and her pilot partner, Peter Lynch, 52, were killed when their seaplane nose-dived and split in two upon hitting the water.

The footage uploaded to her Instagram account shows Cakrawati smiling and asking her followers to wish her luck as the couple prepared for takeoff.

“We’re in Perth and we are ready to go for Skyworks today. Happy Australia Day,” she said.

Cakrati then posted a shot of the plane’s propeller starting up, alongside the word, “Off.”

Moments later, 60,000 spectators watched on in disbelief as their Grumman G-73 “Mallard” plane went down approximately 200 metres offshore, narrowly missing nearby boats and barges laden with fireworks.

“The plane seemed to be banking and then it looked like it was turning too sharply and just seemed to fall into the water,” one witness recalled.

According to Acting Commissioner Stephen Brown, it is still not known what caused the incident, although it is understood that the couple died on impact.

“We were unable to rescue these two people and they’ve lost their lives,” he told reporters.

“We need to know the facts and precisely what happened and why, so we can fix it, if it needs fixing into to the future.”

“It may just be a traffic accident and we have to let these people, who are very professional, do their work and report back to us and as soon as we know we will tell the community of Western Australia.”
