Tennis champ Venus Williams is allegedly at fault after a deadly car crash in Florida earlier this month, a police spokesperson has revealed.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Williams was driving her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV when witnesses say she ran a red light into the path of a sedan driven by 68-year-old Linda Barson.
The woman’s husband Jerome Barson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was rushed to hospital after obtaining a head injury in the collision.
The 79-year-old died two weeks later.
Williams lawyer, Malcolm Cunningham says she has not been ticketed or charged and was not injured.
In a statement released on Thursday he explained that the sportswoman entered the intersection on a green light.
“This is an unfortunate accident, and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one,” the statement read.
Palm Beach Gardens Police Department are currently investigating the incident.
