A teenager has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly decapitating his own mother.
Police in in the US state of North Carolina were called to a ‘gruesome scene’ where they discovered 18-year-old Oliver Funez holding his mother’s head in one hand and what appeared to be a butchers knife in the other, the New York Post reports.
Inside the home, officers found the body of 35-year-old Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machada.
Two young siblings were at home but were unharmed, and a fourth child was at school.
It is believed that Oliver called the police himself after committing the horrifying act.
Complete and utter shock. Pilot, Zebulon this whole area is a quiet area and I didn’t know what to expect when I got home and saw police cars and everything around,’ a neighbor reported to CBS.
It is still unclear what lead Oliver to kill his mother and the teenager currently remains in jail until he is due to appear before a judge on Tuesday.
