Twin bombs were detonated in the popular tourist destination

Twin bomb has exploded at a tourist resort in Thailand, killing one and injuring others.

The bombs, hidden in plant boxes, exploded 20 minutes apart in Hua Hin near Bangkok, outside beer bars in Soi Bintabat, The Sydney Morning Herald reports

Witness Mark Gainsford told the publication: ‘I heard people shouting ‘bomb, bomb’ but I didn’t hear any blast.’

‘I ran out to see if I could help. I saw eight to 10 people injured on the floor. The police arrived very quickly,’ he said.

The Mirror reports at least nine foreigners were among the wounded.

A phone is believed to have detonated the blasts.

The BBC’s Jonathan Head tweeted: ‘Police in Hua Hin say 2 motorbike bombs injured 11 ppl, some seriously, some foreigners. 1 bomb followed by 2nd; similar to south insurgents.’

However, Edwin Weik wrote on Twitter: ‘At San Paolo hospital 7 injured foreigners from #bomb in #Huahin, 1 seriously injured, from Austria, Italy, Germany.’

He added: ‘The #Huahin hospital says two injured foreigners are from the Netherlands.’
