Karl Stefanovic is known for his “larrikin” antics on The Today Show, but it seems the breakfast host may have taken it a little too far today.
While speaking to Prince Harry super-fan Daphne Dunne after her lovely meeting with the royal and new wife Meghan Markle, Stefanovic seemingly mocked and inappropriately giggled his way through the interview.
As newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys interviewed the 98-year-old war widow Daphne outside Sydney’s Admiralty House, Karl couldn’t resist asking a bizarre question about the Duke Of Sussex’s signature scent.
He told Sylvia from the Channel Nine studio, “Can you ask Daphne what he smelled like? Was it a summer breeze?”
Jeffrey’s seemed reluctant to relay the question, before mustering, “I’m not sure this is appropriate…but Karl would like to know what Prince Harry smells like.”
Daphne, who has previously met Prince Harry during visits to Australia in 2015 and 2017, offered a rather surprising response.
She quickly quipped, “Oh, quite nice! Mannish.”
Georgie Gardner was amused, telling Karl: “Daphne doesn’t miss a trick, does she?”
Daphne’s meeting with Harry has tugged at the heartstrings of the nation.
After spotting Daphne in the crowd at the Sydney Oprah House, Harry greeted the war widow with a warm embrace.
“How are you?” she asked him
“Very well,” he replied.
“I heard the good news this morning,” Daphne continued, referencing the announcement that Harry and new wife Meghan Markle are expecting their first child.
Harry was clearly keen to introduce Daphne to the former actress.
“I’m going to get my wife to come over and say hello as well,” Harry said.
Daphne greeted Meghan with arms wide open.
“It’s so nice to meet you,” Meghan said before Daphne offered her congratulations on the pregnancy.
“What an exciting time, yes I’m so happy,” Meghan, 37, said.
Daphne responded: “It’s just what Harry needs.”
