One of Ikea’s most iconic flat-packs has been predicted to one day be worth almost 100 times its original value.
The simple LÖVBACKEN side table, which retails for $79, was created by the Swedish furniture giant in 1953 as its first ever flat-pack product.
According to Barnebys.com, since its launch the three-legged table has sold for thousands of dollars in some of Sweden’s leading auction houses.

Barneby’s, which is one of the world’s leading search engines for art, antiques and collectables, predicts the re-release of the table could see its value explode to as much as $3160 in 2030 and $8775 in 2040.
The site wrote, ‘The LÖVBACKEN has become a collectible for the most discerning of furniture experts, I wouldn’t be surprised if the development in its value would look like this in the future.’
The LÖVBACKEN features solid beechwood legs with a light brown fibreboard table top and is currently available to purchase in Australia – but only for a limited time.
In June, Ikea announced it would phase out all single-use plastic products by 2020 across its stores worldwide.

This means Ikea will stop selling single-use plastic products including straws, plates, cups, freezer bags, garbage bags and plastic-coated paper plates and cups. This new initiative will also take effect across all Ikea’s restaurants.
