It’s been a week of turmoil – and not just in politics.
But while Australia prepares to discover if another one of its Prime Ministers will step down, Her Majesty the Queen has sent a message of support to those who are struggling.
In a message to farmers who have been facing one of the most devastating droughts of the 21st century, Queen Elizabeth spoke out.
In a message released by Government House, the Queen said she and Prince Philip had been ‘deeply saddened’ to hear of the drought.
‘I know Australia as a land where extremes of weather, floods and droughts are taken in their stride, and life goes on with a stoic and determined spirit,’ the Queen continued in the statement, released on Thursday.
‘It is clear, however, that the current drought is taking an immense toll, especially on those living and working in rural communities, who are, in so many ways, the very heart and soul of Australia.’
Her Majesty went on to say how heartening it was to see Australians supporting each other.
‘My thoughts and prayers are with the many individuals, families, communities and businesses who have been affected, and I send my sincere thanks to all those who stand shoulder-to-shoulder in their support.’
