Pop star Aaron Carter has shared an emotional letter with his fans, saying he wants to lift ‘a weight and a burden’ by declaring that he has dated both men and women.
This comes at the same time as Carter’s rep confirmed with ET that Carter has split from his girlfriend, Madison Parker, who he met over Instagram.
‘To start off, I would like to say that I love each and EVERY ONE of my fans,’ he begins in a screenshotted note shared on Twitter.
‘There’s something I’d like to say that I feel is important for myself and my identity that has been weighing on my chest for nearly half of my life.’
Carter goes on to describe how when he was 13 he realised he found both men and women attractive, and at the age of 17 he had an experience that affirmed his feelings.
‘This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off me,’ he explains of his decision to share his story.
He finishes his post by quoting Boy George: ‘I’ve never felt as though I didn’t belong, I just acted as though I did.’
As for the breakup, Carter’s rep is reported as sharing in a statement: ‘Aaron and Madison love each other and respect one another dearly. It was a mutual decision and Aaron’s personal statement released speaks for itself. Now back to the music.’
Aaron Carter was arrested earlier this year along with his girlfriend Madison Parker, suspected of driving under the influence of marijuana, and of possessing marijuana.
Carter’s brother, Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boy fame, messaged Aaron over Twitter when he heard of his arrest. A move which upset the younger of the two siblings. He asked why Nick didn’t reach out to him privately, and accused his older bother of taking advantage of the situation in a statement.
