The air traffic control tower at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith airport has been evacuated after smoke was detected in the building.
Flights have been grounded and no planes are landing at the international transport hub.

A spokeswoman for Air Services Australia told The Guardian there is a “full ground-stop in place” which prevents all departures and arrivals.

Planes scheduled to land are circling the airspace above the landing strip, Nine reports.
Emergency services have been at the scene since 11.40am.
ABC reports Fire and Rescue NSW evacuated 20 people from the control tower.
