Australia has officially failed to crown its first Ninja Warrior, but that’s not the only controversy surrounding last night’s much-hyped grand finale.
While it’s not clear whether it was a slip up in the editing process, or a deliberate nod to the late athlete, Johann Ofner’s name appeared on the leader board at the end of the first stage of the obstacle course, revealing he had finished in fifth position.
The stuntman was also briefly seen during co-host Freddie Flintoff’s end of show sign off.
In a tragic turn of events, the 28-year-old was killed in an accident on the set of a Bliss n Eso film clip seven months before Australian Ninja Warrior debuted on air.
Many have taken to Twitter to discuss Ofner’s unexpected appearance and praise him for his success on the show.
This comes after Channel Nine previously revealed they would not be airing Ofner’s runs in the program out of respect of his family.
Instead, the network honoured the life of the Gold Coast dad by dedicating an episode of the show to him.
