The sad saga of Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski’s disappearance and death came to an end today, with her husband, Borce, formally sentenced to nine years jail, after he decided to plead guilty to manslaughter.

Following time served, it is expected that Ristevski could walk free after another five years behind bars. The sentence has outraged Karen’s family, with her brother Stephen Williams slamming the sentence as ‘lenient’.
‘We didn’t get justice today, at all,’ he said outside court. ‘As a society, at some stage in regards to domestic violence we must make a stand.’
However Judge Christopher Beale was highly critical of Ristevski, lashing him for withholding the truth about Karen’s fate for years following her disappearance.
‘You had killed your wife, disposed of her body and started down a road of deceit that you were to continue on for nearly three years,’ Judge Beale said.
‘You continued spinning your web of lies, lying not only to your daughter but to extended family, friends, police but even the public in a press conference organised the Missing Person’s Unit.’
The Melbourne man already been behind bars for 491 days, cutting substantially into his sentence.
