More than 12 years after she arrived carrying over 4kg’s of marijuana in her boogie board bag, Schapelle Corby has completed her sentence and is due to leave Bali later tonight.
And despite her convicted criminal status, the 39-year-old is set to receive VIP treatment upon her departure.
Several news outlets are reporting that Corby will be escorted to Bali’s International Airport by up to 100 police officers.
Kuta Police Chief Wayan Sumara said he will deploy one company of troop'” which equates to 100 police officers. They will escort Corby to the airport via the Parole Office in Denpasar, reports 9News.
Traffic police and general duties and undercover officers will also be on hand to get Corby to the airport safely.
‘I don’t want someone to have problem here.’ Mr Sumara told reporters.
When asked if Corby was getting special treatment, he replied: ‘No, not for Corby only. Everybody get special treatment here.’
The news comes as it emerged earlier this week that Corby will fly business class with Virgin to Brisbane with her sister Mercedes and will be accompanied on the flight by celebrity bodyguard John McLeod, who also includes Roger Federer and Lady Gaga on his impressive list of high-profile clients.
There are special arrangements set in place for when she lands at Brisbane Airport – it’s understood she will be taken ‘airside’, rather than moving through the public arrivals hall.
