NRL star Sam Burgess has broken his silence this afternoon about the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ sexting scandal.
“I’m not angry. What hurts me the most is seeing my wife upset about what’s out there,” the married father of one told reporters during a press conference at the Rabbitohs’ Redfern training headquarters.
Last week, the 29-year-old English sport star found himself at the centre of a video chat scandal after his Facebook account was reportedly used to send nude photos to a 23-year-old woman.
The woman claims one Rabbitohs player exposed his genitals and another Rabbitoh flashed his backside during an online video chat in May.
Burgess did not comment on the specific details of the case, but said he is “happy for the truth to come out” and he expects a resolution within the next “24-48 hours.”
“I’m not running away and hiding from what’s out there. There is an inquiry going on and it’s coming to a close. Until then I can’t speak about it and you have to understand that,” he said.
The Rabbitohs forward also said the process has been tough for his wife, Phoebe, who is pregnant with their second child.
“Speaking from the perspective of my wife, and my family, it’s been a tough process to go through,” he said.
“I’m fortunate I’ve got a strong wife, a wife who loves me, great family and great friends.
“It’s been a tricky process.
“We’re all human, so you do feel it (emotionally), but I’ve had certain experiences in my life before and I’ve had some serious emotions I’ve had to deal with. In the past football has helped me compartmentalise those feelings.
“We’re all stood here talking about something when really we should be focusing on the game that’s coming up.
