An American jogger has fallen victim to sexist comments online for her choice of outfit.
A Facebook user left vile comments after a photo of Laurah Lukin, a University of Cincinnati professor and mother, was was posted online – showing her running in her home state of Ohio.
The man, a stranger to Lukin commented on the photo responding to another user who complimented her abs: ‘That’s because she doesn’t have any damn clothes on and she’s running for her life’ before ending with the disgusting comment, ‘No wonder joggers get raped’.
Lukin, who was tagged in the professional shot has now responded to the vile comments: ‘I was immediately disappointed that my gut reaction to this man’s horrific comments was to defend my wardrobe choice. After all, there were photos from the race of shirtless men, men in short shorts, men in tight shorts; yet he did not feel motivated to comment on their potential for inviting sexual assault,’ she posted to her website, Lao Tong Pride.
‘It is not my responsibility to choose a race outfit or workout apparel to deter the temptation of men. The length of my shorts is not an indication of interest, invitation or consent,’ she continued.
‘NOBODY asks to be raped,’ Lukin wrote.
The hurtful comments did not stop there though as the man responded to her comeback, saying: ‘You delicate little snowflakes, so easily offended.’
But his attempt to continue the public bashing was put to an end when Lukin wrote back: ‘I hope that by speaking out, others will be encouraged to speak out as well and help change that culture, because with enough snowflakes, you can cause an avalanche that transforms the landscape.’
