It is alleged that the California mum who was abducted whilst out jogging last year, had previously been reported to the police by her own family.

The Sacramento Bee alleges that they have obtained documents suggesting Sherr’s mother Loretta Graeff told police 13 years ago that her daughterhad allegedly’been harming herself and blaming the injuries on her.’

According to the incident reports obtained by the Bee, Graeff was seeking authorities help with her daughter.

The publication reports that the documents are from 2003 and added that it’s unclear if there was evidence indictating Papini had been hurting herself.

The publication also reports that Papini’s sister once called the police on her in 2000, alleging that her sister had kicked in her back door.

In other calls, Papini’s father and sister accused her, respectively, of vandalism and of kicking in a door in an alleged break-in attempt.

Papini’s father also called the sheriff’s office in 2003 to claim that she had made an unauthorized withdrawal of money from his checking account.

However Sherri’s family vehemently deny the claims and released a statement to ABC News earlier on today saying:

‘Sherri Papini and her family are the very recent victims of an extremely violent crime that has painfully and dramatically changed the course of their lives forever.’

‘It is shameful that a media outlet would intentionally exploit Sherri and Keith Papini and their young children’s trauma for the sole purpose of clickbait and selling papers.’

‘The newspaper’s decision to aggressively seek out and publish unsubstantiated online activity and distort phone conversations from 16 years ago is victim-blaming at its most egregious,’ it added. ‘It is our hope that the media will honor their privacy as they work through this difficult time.’

Sherri vanished on November 2 last year and was discovered more than three weeks later. She claimed two Hispanic women abducted her at gunpoint.

Police say the investigation is still active and no arrests have been made.
