Hugh Hefner’s exit from this earth wasn’t the classy affair that the Playboy mogul might have hoped for – following a shock report today detailing a grotesque alleged looting spree by bunnies and other hangers-on at the Playboy Mansion following the publishing mogul’s death.
According to US magazine Globe, when word spread that the porn king had died, many of his hard-partying visitors and associates went on the rampage – stripping the famous residence of even its most basic fittings. And some items that should have gone straight into the furnace!
‘The bedrooms – even Hef’s – were stripped of things like sex toys, gold-plated statues, used sheets and lingerie,’ a source told Globe. ‘Valuable art was snatched from the walls – with imprints of the frames still visible.’
Even the infamous grotto – the scene of numerous celebrity parties and reputed orgies – was not spared, with cushions from patio furniture snatched and pieces of rock chipped from the iconic landscaping, apparently to be kept as keepsakes ahead of the site’s rumoured upcoming demolition or transition into a private home.
In one small saving grace for Hef’s memory, his games room wasn’t completely depleted – with pinball machines and other large fixtures left behind as they were apparently too big to move, reports Globe.
The alleged looting spree may just be a taste of changes to come, with rumours the mansion’s new owners intend to take the wrecking ball to the site now that Hefner is dead. The mansion was sold last year, under the proviso that Hef – who is pictured above in 2003 with two women who were not involved in any looting – could continue to live there until he died.
Playboy reps have yet to respond to the allegations in Globe‘s report.
