A worryingly thin vlogger has been forced to defend her online presence as thousands sign a petition demanding she be banned from YouTube because of fears she’s promoting anorexia.
22-year-old Eugenia Cooney from New York slammed critics and insists she never tries to ‘influence anyone badly and I would never encourage people to try to look like me’.
The self-proclaimed ‘emo’ – who has an online following of almost 1 million – released YouTube video addressing the issue.
‘Some people are saying I’m like a bad influence on girls. I just want you guys to know like I have seriously never have tried to be a bad influence on YouTube or to influence anyone badly. I would never want to do that.’ she states.
More than 18,000 people signed a Change.org petition calling for her to be temporarily banned from YouTube and seek medical help.
‘Eugenia Cooney has a serious medical condition and needs to seek help. She has been influencing her viewers by her serious underweight condition,’ it states.
‘She may not be intentionally influencing her viewers but showing 50 per cent of her body in videos and pictures are not helping girls with anorexia or any eating disorder,’ said administrator Lynn Cloud.
Eugenia’s video’s mainly include hair, make-up and fashion advice and have amassed such a popular following that she even receives financial contributions from fans.
