Olympic mystery: Police question Ryan Lochte’s claim he was mugged

Shock news

US gold-medal winner Ryan Lochte has been ordered to stay in Rio after a suggestions he lied about being robbed at gun point.

However, reports say Lochte, 32, left the country before a judge ordered his passport to be confiscated.

A source with the U.S. Team told PEOPLE, ‘The entire swim team had moved out already, so they couldn’t take the passports.’

‘They don’t believe his version of events, so there will be an inquiry.’

Lochte told NBC that he and three teammates were in a taxi on their way back to the Olympic Village when they were pulled over by police.

‘We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over,’ Lochte said. ‘They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn’t do anything wrong, so — I’m not getting down on the ground.

‘And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, ‘Get down,’ and I put my hands up, I was like “whatever.” He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials.’

Judge Keyla Blanc issued an order to prevent Lochte and team mate James Feigen from leaving Brazil, saying the men gave contradictory statements.

‘It seems like the victims arrived with an unshaken physical and psychological state, making jokes with each other,’ she said.
