Mum Thi Nguyen, 19, became alarmed after experiencing excruciating pain following the birth of her son at Sydney’s Fairfield Hospital.

When medical staff discovered the problem, she had to go back under the knife to have the item removed – allegedly without her husband Steven being informed.

‘No one told me anything,’ he told Nine News.

Fairfield Hospital’s Chief Executive and Director of Medical Services Amanda Larkin admitted a needle had been left in another new mum just the day prior.

“I’d like to offer out most sincere apologies to Ms Nguyen and especially to her partner for our lack of communication about her care,” Ms Larkin told Nine.

“We do sincerely regret that at the time of the incident, we were unable to speak to him.

“When we were made aware of the incident, we put in place the processes to address what had occurred.”

The type of needle involved in the accident has now been removed from use.
