A frazzled mother has had a terrifying and sleepless night after seeing a ‘ghost baby’ on her baby monitor, with the apparition seemingly snuggled up with her own infant son.
Maritza Elizabeth, from the US state of Illinois, posted images on social media of the unsettling image that appeared on her home video system when she checked in on her child.
‘So last night I was positive there was a ghost baby in the bed with my son,’ Elizabeth wrote. ‘I was so freaked out, I barely slept.
‘I even tried creeping in there with a flashlight while my son was sleeping.’
But things looked very different when daylight struck, with the mum finding out exactly what was going on. And it wasn’t a ghost.
‘It turns out my husband just forgot to put the mattress protector on when he changed the sheets,’ she said.
A second social media image shows that the baby’s mattress featured a tag with a large photographic image matching the baby seen in the video. It had apparently been showing through the fabric, giving the illusion of a ghostly visitor.
With the post shared hundreds of thousands of times online, viewers are chiming in with their own thoughts about the drama.
‘Funny in retrospect though,’ one person wrote. Another added: ‘I just laughed so hard… to myself… quietly… (because) the babies are sleeping.’
