“It makes me feel sick to my stomach,” Emily Gargasoulas told reporters.

“I’m so sorry, so so sorry.”

26-year-old Dimitrious Gargasoulas, also known as “Jimmy,” was arrested around 1.30pm on Friday, shortly after he mounted the footpath and drove at pedestrians in Burke St Mall.

More than 30 people were injured in the incident, with five people, including a three-month-old baby, since confirmed to have died.

Mr Gargasoulas allegedly began his brutal rampage at his mother’s unit in Windsor on Thursday night, with Ms Gargasoulas witnessing a bloody fight erupt between her son and his brother Angelo over his sexuality.

“Jimmy keeps saying to me, I’m going to kill all gays and poofters and lesbians,” she revealed.

It’s been reported that Mr Gargasoulas also injured his mother’s partner during the argument, before stealing a car and evading police.

Mr Gargasoulas’ pregnant girlfriend, Akiir Muo claims she was forced into the car and taken hostage, and has told the Herald Sun that he threatened to kill her if she didn’t comply with his demands.

“He wasn’t himself… He kept saying “I can’t let you out of my sight, if you don’t come with me I’m going to kill you.”

Ms Muo said Mr Gargasoulas’ became increasingly agitated after realising he was being followed by unmarked police cars.

“He was driving really erratically… he kept saying it was the end of the world and how he planned to run over people in the city because the police were following us,” she said.

“As soon as he realised there was more police following us, he just went crazy… he kept saying he was God and he was going to kill lots of people.”

Police are yet to charge Mr Gargasoulas, who remains under police guard in hospital.
