Mother and son Monica Mares and Caleb Peterson shocked the world when details emerged about their incestuous relationship last year.
And now, the ‘madly in love’ couple from New Mexico have vowed to stay together, despite both pleading guilty to incest.
Monica, 37 and Caleb, 20, connected on Facebook and started a sexual relationship eighteen years after a 16-year-old Monica – who is now a mother-of-nine – gave him up for adoption.
The couple was charged with incest following a February 25 incident in which an argument with a neighbor led to said neighbor reporting them to the police.
As jury selection for a trial began on Wednesday, the pair accepted a plea deal that would give them three years probation each, half of that supervised.
They also must stay away from each other for a year and a half, according to WCMH-TV.
Despite the seriousness of the case, both mother and son previously said they will continue their sexual relationship at whatever cost.
‘He is the love of my life and I don’t want to lose him. My kids love him, my whole family does. Nothing can come between us not courts, or jail, nothing,’ Monica said to the Mail Online last year.
‘I have to be with him. When I get out of prison I will move out of Clovis to a state that allows us to be together.’
Monica said she would even give up the right to see her other children if she was asked to choose between them and her lover.
