Sharon Paz, Vice President of McDonald’s Australia, told 7NEWS.com.au the meat is now cooked for 40 seconds to make it the “juiciest..our customers have ever tasted”.

Extra sauce will be layered on the Big Mac and the cheese will be melted more “perfectly”.

Onions will now be fried on the same grill as the meat to add extra flavour, but some customers are already disappointed with this decision.

One Instagram user wrote: “I can’t believe you’re now cooking onions on the same hot plate? I don’t eat them.. it’s going to kill my obsession with the cheeseburger and Big Mac.”

Still, others are already singing the praises of McDonald’s new and improved formula, with one delighted customer saying: “Not one to believe most marketing ploys but the Quarter Pounder I’ve just ordered is absolutely delicious. Better than ever, I can’t believe it.”

Today’s free burgers are available while stocks last.
