Mark E Smith, The Fall frontman, passes away aged 60

Mark E Smith, the founder and frontman of The Fall, has passed away at the age of 60.

The sad news was announced on Twitter via a statement from the band’s longtime manager Pam Van Damned.

The statement read: ‘The day I’ve been dreading. 

‘It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mark E. Smith. He passed away this morning at home’

Damned continued, ‘A more detailed statement will follow in the next few days. In the meantime, Pam and Mark’s family request privacy at this sad time.’

The legendary band was formed by Smith in 1976, along with fellow original members Martin Bramah, Una Baines, and Tony Friel. Throughout the years the British punk band released 32 studio albums, and Smith remained the only original member. 

The iconic musicians passing prompted tributes to flood social media.
