Former Married At First Sight star Lachlan Rofe has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Appearing in Picton Court on Monday, the 38-year-old – who also appeared on Farmer Wants A Wife following his stint on MAFS – escaped jail time but was sentenced to a 12-month good behaviour bond.
Back in March, he was accused of attacking his then partner Kasey Williams in front of her two-year-old daughter late last year at his property in Cawdor in Sydney’s south-west.
In phone vision played in court, a heavily intoxicated Rofe could be heard and seen arguing with Williams and asking her to leave his house.
At the time, Williams told police in a taped interview that Rofe had “choked” her, however the judge found this accusation to be false.
As the tearful mother appeared in court to give her version of events, Rofe sat metres away – according to media reports, laughing and smiling.
At one point, the judge even interrupted the proceedings to tell him to “stop smirking at her.”
Rofe – who went by Lachlan McAleer in the first season of the hit reality TV show – told 9News that he plans to appeal his sentence.
“Happy that they removed the allegation of choking,” he said.
“It is disappointing to go nine months of your life and get charged with groping, putting your hands on your girlfriend’s jacket for two seconds.”
