Former Married At First Sight contestant Clare Verrall has revealed that she attempted suicide after her time on the dating show.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Clare, who was ‘married’ to Jono on MAFS, says that she began to struggle and break down once the show stopped filming.
“After we stopped filming, I was in bed for about a month so I was just full of anxiety. As soon as I went outside there were panic attacks, stuff like that. It was unfortunate,” she revealed.
“Then, after it aired, I had a total meltdown and basically stayed in bed for a month.”

Clare says that the recogniition she gained from the public afetr being on the show was too much for her.
“People would come up and want a selfie and I’d smile and then I’d go around the corner and have a panic attack in the supermarket. It was awful. So I’d just stop leaving the house altogether.”
But in September 2016 Clare says a social media post shared by another reality star criticising her behaviour in relation to the show led to immense bullying from online trolls
After reportedly pleading for the post be taken down, Clare attempted suicide that same night.
Thankfully, she had messaged a friend who contacted Clare’s parents.
“She got them to try and call me and I wouldn’t pick up the phone, then she called an ambulance and she got in an Uber and came straight to my house. If she hadn’t have done that… I don’t know what would have happened.”

After struggling to pay for professional help, Clare says she made an attempt on her own life again in April 2017.
After then, her parents stepped in to help pay.
“I was sent to a treatment centre 36 hours after that second [suicide] attempt. I was allowed to take my dog Dutchy which was really cool,” Clare recalled.
Now, Clare says she is doing much better. “I still get anxiety from time to time, but not badly. I just do meditation now. And I have the skill set to bring it back in.”
