Stephen Paddock opened fire on a country music concert from his hotel room in Las Vegas, killing over 50 people and injuring hundreds more.
The 64-year-old man lives in a retirement village in Mesquite, Nevada, one hour north of Las Vegas.
He has been linked to a companion, a 62-year-old woman name Marilou Danley, who police have now confirmed was not involved in the shooting and is not a suspect.
According to NBC News, Paddock was in the middle of a divorce when he carried out the deadly attack on concertgoers.
Paddock’s brother Eric, claimed Paddock’s identity was determined after police stormed his room and went through his wallet, which was found on his body.
Eric said, ‘He was just a guy. Something happened, he snapped or something. We know absolutely nothing, this is just, we are dumbfounded.’
Paddock was not known to be an avid gunman, said Eric, and that he ‘has no military background.’
