Kensington Palace has been left reeling by the shock arrest of Duchess Kate’s millionaire uncle, after a vicious alleged domestic violence attack.
Gary Goldsmith – the younger brother of Kate’s mum Carole – has been accused of ‘thumping’ his wife Julie-Ann outside their London home, leaving her unconscious after a street row over his reported drug use.
The senseless attack left the beaten woman in hospital and sent shockwaves through royal circles, with Kate, 35, reportedly ‘devastated’ over the violent episode – which saw her uncle handcuffed and led away in a police van by six officers.
‘Kate is beside herself, she couldn’t believe it when she found out,’ says a palace source. ‘She was so worried about Julie-Ann and so angry at Gary for apparently hurting her and dragging their family name through the mud.
‘When she first started dating [Prince] William, Gary was caught doing cocaine in front of a journalist, which was incredibly embarrassing for her and led to all sorts of problems with the Queen.
‘Now there’s another scandal, and it’s just so awful. When Wills and Kate found out that cops had been called to the scene, and Julie-Ann had been taken away in an ambulance, they were sick with worry.’
The messy incident took place after businessman Gary, 52 – who’s worth $50 million – and Julie-Ann, 47, returned home from a night out at a private club on October 13.
The taxi driver who drove them home reveals that the pair started bickering in the back seat of his cab, before the argument spilled out to the street when they finally arrived home.
The taxi driver goes on to reveal that the argument soon turned violent, with Kate’s uncle reportedly attacking his wife in front of their luxury London home.
Gary was arrested and handcuffed by police, and led away from his home. He was later charged with suspicion of domestic assault.
