The brother of murdered Melbourne mum Karen Ristevski has opened up about the “totally horrific” eight months their family has endured since her disappearance in June 2016.
Speaking with Nine News, Steve Williams has said that the discovery of her body earlier this week came as a “relief” as he had given up hope of finding his older sister alive long ago.
“(I) knew Karen wasn’t coming home,” he revealed in the interview with reporter Alexis Daish.
“Knew that from a very early stage. Yesterday just confirmed what we pretty much thought and knew all along.”
“Part of it’s actually a little bit of relief. It’s an end to what everyone was unfortunately thinking.”
Williams went on to remember his sister as an “energetic” woman, devoted to her family and her work.
He added that the 47-year-old shared an especially close bond with her 21-year-old daughter, Sarah.
“Sarah being the only child. Yeah, very close. Both of them obviously love fashion and clothes,” he said.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that human remains found by a bushwalker at the base of Mt Macedon belonged to Mrs Ristevski.
William’s admitted that while finding the fashion boutique owner had put an end to one “chapter” others were left unresolved.
He added that he was hopeful that unanswered questions surrounding the mystery of her death would be resolved quickly.
The 47-year-old was last seen by her husband, Borce Ristevski at their family home in Avondale Heights the same day she was reported as missing.
No charges have been laid, but Mr Ristevski’s lawyer has said he is the lead suspect in the case.
This comes after police reportedly seized a dirty shovel from the Ristevski’s garage as crucial evidence.
According to the Herald Sun, soil samples taken from the shovel have been forensically tested, with one matching earth found in the Gisborne-Macedon area.
