A French man allegedly tied his estranged wife to a high-speed railway track and threw himself in front of a train in what police are treating a suspected murder-suicide.
The Times reports that the remains of Émilie Hallouin, 34, and Guillaume Gremy, 37, were found on train tracks in Beauvilliers in northern France.
Police allege that Hallouin—a mother-of-four—was tied by her wrists and ankles to the tracks by Gremy. It was reportedly the woman’s birthday the day she died.
A Beauvilliers police spokesman told the Mirror: “The 34-year-old woman had been fixed to the tracks with strong adhesive tape before her death, whilst the man’s body had not”.
“It was the act of a man who it has emerged had been suffering from serious and long-term depression.
“We have since learned they separated three years ago, and the man was desperate to reunite with his wife, which she did not want.”
