Two teenagers have been arrested after allegedly going on a suspected ISIS inspired stabbing rampage that left one man dead and three others wounded near Canberra overnight.
The ABC reports that the 15 and 16-year-old boys stabbed a service station attendant to death at Queanbeyan around midnight before taking off with cash and several other stolen items.
According to Monaro police commander Superintendent Rod Smith, the pair had also been involved in a series of other “horrific attacks” in the area that included stabbing another man in the abdomen.
He was rushed to a Canberra hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
It has since been revealed that counter-terrorism police are currently investigating the incident.
“It doesn’t need to be said but it doesn’t get much more serious than this,” Superintendent Smith told ABC.
“We’d just like to reassure everybody that there are two people that we believe are involved and those people are currently in custody.”
