Totally dependent on sleeping pills, but still unable to get the rest he desperately needs, Dean (Patrick O’Connor) has been on a downward spiral for some time. But could Dean’s sleeping pill addiction cost him his life?
“Dean’s been behaving more and more strangely lately,” says Patrick of his character’s trance-like state.
“He’s extremely confused and doing things that he’s not even aware of. It’s very frightening for him and also for those around him.”
In this week’s gripping scenes, Colby (Tim Franklin) takes the former River Boy to a motel for a “cold turkey” detox.
“Colby wants to do whatever he can to help Dean,” says Patrick. “He thinks this is the only way to get Dean clean. Colby refuses to let Dean out of the room. He gives him food, but won’t let him have any sleeping pills.”
But Colby’s plan to help his long-time friend takes a terrifying turn when a weak Dean suddenly collapses during an argument with Colby. “They have a bit of a bro-down and things get extremely intense,” confirms Patrick. “Dean has become so dependent on these sleeping pills, and now he loses consciousness.”
Jasmine (Sam Frost) arrives to help, but will the young nurse be able to save Dean?
“It’s very full-on,” hints Patrick. “Dean’s in a lot more trouble than anyone had realised.”
