“I know it sounds mad but we had this conversation like three months ago in the office.

“We literally all said if a guy came at you with a gun, your running aren’t you? But if he’s got a knife and you’re all physical guys you all just [go help].

“You know Luke does Thai boxing, I’m a physical guy, you know Liam’s a physical guy and Alex, and we’re all like we’d help if we could because there’s going to be kids around, I’m a father.”

The hero, who identifies himself as Paul O’Shaunessy, continued:

“We just acted on instinct mate, to be honest with you.

“We all came together and I think it just shows what the Australian spirit is all about. Sticking together and just helping people when there’s a danger.

“The Australian police did a really great job, you have to commend them.

The alleged perpetrator is shown with blood on his hands and is seen relatively motionless, pinned under the chair with a milk crate over his head.

A police statement advised:

‘That male offender, which we will be alleging is responsible for the stabbing is now in custody.

‘All I can conclusively say is that male offender was on his own and there was no person complicit at this stage.
