British actor Robert Hardy has passed away at the age of 91.
Relatives have confirmed the news in a statement, reflecting on the star’s “tremendous life” and “giant career in theatre, television and film spanning more than 70 years.”
Hardy was best known for his role as veterinarian Siegfried Farnon in the long-running TV series All Creatures Great and Small. He also played Winston Churchill in multiple projects, and won a BAFTA in 1981 for his portrayal of the Prime Minister in Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years.
Most recently, Hardy appeared in four Harry Potter films as the head of the Ministry of Magic, Cornelius Fudge.
He is survived by his three children who remember their late father as: “a meticulous linguist, a fine artist, a lover of music and a champion of literature.”
“Gruff, elegant, twinkly, and always dignified, he is celebrated by all who knew him and loved him, and everyone who enjoyed his work,” the statement read.
Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to the star.
