Full-time mum Nikki Furness-Winmill, 30, was enjoying some drinks with friend Vicki Webb, 30, in Blandford Forum, Dorset, earlier this month when the pair snapped a few selfies on the dance floor of The Greyhound pub.
But it wasn’t until the next morning when the spooked pals discovered the terrifying outline of a ghostly male face leaning over their shoulders.
The women first thought they had been photobombed by another reveller but soon realised the creepy face was not human.
Neither can explain what the face in the picture was, and they claim it still remains a mystery.
Mum-of-one Nikki said: “Vicki came to visit me so we went out on Saturday night to have a few drinks.
“We were on the dance floor when we took a few pictures with my phone.
“It wasn’t until the next day, when I sent the photos to my friend, that I realised something was wrong.
“The first thing I thought was that someone had photobombed us.
“But the more I looked at it, the more it didn’t seem right.
“It actually looked quite odd because of its size.
“I realised it was so strange, because my phone’s camera is one of the best on the market so it wasn’t because of the light or flash.”
Her friend Vicki, a neighbourhood officer, from Norwich said:
“It was at the end of the night, when we got home that Nikki had sent me the photos from the evening and as I looked through them that particular one made me laugh, I thought someone had photobombed us.
“It was only when I showed Nikki in the morning that we realised how creepy and weird it looked.”
Nikki got in touch with Paranormal Investigations UK, where they ran some tests confirming the ghostly authenticity of the picture – something that only ‘baffled’ her more.
She has since discovered The Greyhound was rebuilt in 1731 after a huge fire which claimed lives – so she believes the building could be haunted.
Nikki added: “I have no idea what it might be. I do believe in ghosts, and it looks like it has the form of a person.
“I was glad the face was behind my friend and not me. She was more freaked out than I was for the same reason.
“I know the pub was rebuilt after a big fire in 1731, I can imagine a great number of people died in that fire.”
Vicki added: “I’ve never been a massive believer in the spiritual world so my initial reaction was that it was just someone photobombing us – but neither of us could remember anyone being that close to us on the dance floor.
“Perhaps we did have a friendly ghost partying with us that night? It did give me the Heebie Jeebies for a bit.
“I didn’t want to look in my rear view mirror when driving in the dark for a few nights”.
