Scott Schwab, the dad of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab, who lost his life at Kansas City’s Schlitterbahn Water Park, is hoping that an upcoming investigation into the horror will mean that no other family will have to suffer in the same way.

‘While we try to step forward into the new normal of life without Caleb in our presence, we find hope with the current investigation into the incident to provide answers and assurances that such tragedy will not strike again,’ Scott said in a statement.

While nothing can take away the pain over their little boy’s senseless death, Scott, a Kansas politician, said the family was taking some degree of comfort from the public’s continued support.

‘Words will never convey the appreciation [my wife] Michele, the boys, and I have for all those who expressed their love and support the last week and a half,’ he wrote. ‘”Thank You” seems so inadequate to express our appreciation, but it is the only phrase we have. So, from the depths of our hearts, we thank you.’

While the accident is still under investigation, it is believed that young Caleb suffered his severe injuries after he slipped out of a safety restraint on the 168-foot ride – which is billed as the world’s most extreme water slide. Two unrelated women on the ride with him at the same time were also injured.
